Donnie Norman
Chief
Chief Donnie Norman was selected as fire chief for Travis County Emergency Services District 1 on June 1, 2014 and serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Lago Vista, the City of Jonestown and the Village of Point Venture.
He began his career in 1979 as a Junior Volunteer Firefighter in his hometown of Pleasant City, Ohio. Two years later, immediately after graduation high school, he joined the US Army/Army Reserves. After returning from active duty, Chief Norman obtained his Firefighter 1 certification and began working as a firefighter.
Shortly after starting his career in the fire service, Chief Norman started pursuing a higher education. Since then, he has received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Management, a bachelor of Science degree in Fire Science Management, and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Sam Houston State University. Chief Norman also earned a Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, a Fire Service Chief Executive Officer Designation from Texas A&M University, a Chief Fire Executive designation from Texas Fire Chiefs Association, and an Executive Fire Officer designation from the National Fire Academy.
Chief Norman also holds numerous certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and is certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as an EMS Instructor and Licensed Paramedic.
Chief Norman has written nationally published articles on leadership and a variety of fire service topics and serves an instructor for the National Fire Academy.
Chief Norman and his wife, Wendy - a teacher with the Lago Vista Independent School District - have six children and four grandchildren.
